The Umlauts are comprised of songwriting partners Alfred Lear and Oliver Offord, lyricists and vocalists Vittoria Faldini and visual artists Annabelle Mödlinger and offer us a mix of synth-pop, spiky no wave and bristling post-punk.
Only a year after forming, they have played a memorable summer of festivals including Wide Awake, Green Man and End Of The Road. Additionally they got airplay from the likes of BBC 6music and coverage from The Guardian, NME, Loud & Quiet, The Quietus, DIY, Clash, So Young.
New cut 'Sweat’ is a song of conflicting voices, presenting a perfect and idealistic summer romance and speaking from a place of pessimistic experience:
"We bereaved and lamented to the point where I pretended/ and that was the time when we knew it should have ended’. “Singing in English seems to unveil our most pessimistic side.” they tell. “But musically we wanted this song to feel almost like an italo-pop pastiche. It's good fun, we love it.”
