3-piece noise band Scowl had regular shows at the Windmill in Brixton and Tunbridge Wells Forum before the pandemic struck. They were building a reputation with their fierce live performances and had supported Lady Bird, FEET and Guru amongst others. Debut single 'The Virgin' had airplay on Radio6 Music and BBC Introducing and caught the attention of London label Blitzcat, who they are signed to. Now they are back with second single 'Lord Porno', which was the name of bassist Sadie’s first band!
'Lord Porno' is a 3-minute release of anger and frustration. It swings from electrifying guitar riffs, screeching strings, pounding drums to vocals full of passion and emotion. The tension builds and the lyrics are sung with more and more frustration, as if there is no solution and the situation just is. The music echoes this with brilliant rock guitar riffs and the power and noise continues until finally its as if Scowl cannot take anymore and realise that they just have to find acceptance. The track comes to a shuddering end with feedback and reverb creating an electric-fuelled full-stop. To think this is just the second single as the tightness within the band is pretty impressive and I can indeed imagine that live this would create an electrifying atmosphere.
