The Jackdaw are a 5-piece punk-rock band from Brighton. They released their second single 'Tales of a Blonde Wig' on 4th of June. Dan Swift (Snow Patrol) contacted the band after hearing their debut single 'Disappointed' and asked to record and produce their next 4 tracks.
The first of these is 'Tales of a Blonde Wig', which is a chaotic ramshackled track. It's rough and ready, which is a complement. Who wants to be smooth and polished! The guitar rattles along with a grittiness which perfectly matches the vocals. The overall atmosphere is reminiscent of the punk bands of old days. The Jackdaw draw inspiration from the likes of Slaves and Queens of the Stone Age and unsurprisingly had begun to make a name for themselves amongst the Brighton punk scene with their fierce live performances. I doubt you would hear this band say "We're just going to slow things down a little....".
This is the sort of music which makes me miss gigs so much.
