Bambara released breakthrough singles 'Shadow On Everything' in 2018, which was dubbed by NPR as a “western gothic opus”. This was followed by riotous 'Stray' in 2020. In the UK they were championed by Steve Lamacq, who called the band “one of his favourite discoveries of the year”.
We all know what happened next – lockdown!! The band used this time to – as they stated - to make better music. The result is “Love On My Mind” – a six song mini-album, mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer.
Latest single 'Mythic Love', which will be on the album, features Bria Salmena (Orville Peck/Frigs) and Drew Citron (Public Practice).
In 'Mythic Love' we see the two protagonists of the record meet for the first time." Reid Bateh explains:
"There’s an immediate attraction that seems almost out of their control. The song is about riding that first manic wave of infatuation wherever it leads, dismantling all of your previous associations with love along the way."
The completion of the mini-album didn't come without its own challenges, with the band’s core twin brothers Reid and Blaze Bateh (vocals and drummer) and childhood friend William Brookshire (bass) scattered across the US. After remotely piecing together an EP, they scrapped it and decided to reconvene in New York.
They knew they wanted to include a couple of duets and enlisted the vocals of Bria Salmena and Drew Citron and added Jason Disu and Jeff Tobias (Sunwatchers), on trombone and saxophone respectively, to expand their sound palette.
