Nixer's new single ‘GENTRIFICATION’, which is already the fifth single from the Éire Wave duo, will be out 2nd of April.
It takes their indie techno sound to another level and is inspired by an issue that is all too prevalent in our cities, it is an electronic reminder that authenticity, community and culture is vital, not the lining of developer’s pockets. Furthermore reminding us of the destruction of the cities essence due to the process of gentrification.
Nixer began as an online conversation between two friends, Seán Keenan and Gearóid Peggs, at the beginning of the Global Pandemic, back in April 2020. All songs are written, recorded and produced remotely in their humble DIY bedroom studio setups in London and Dublin respectively. The video got premiered today, 1st of April, on Nixer's YouTube Channel:
Due  to the ongoing pandemic the video shoot took place on the weekend 20th/21st of March in Dublin and London separately.
Gearóid Peggs did the shoot with Anna Heisterkamp and her team in Dublin, while Seán Keenan filmed his part in London.
They enlisted an older actor as an expression of the generational gap between Boomers and Millenials and the resulting issues - profit and greed seeming to be the driving factors for the gentrification of many of our cities. The video also shows Peggs throwing a bouquet of flowers over the Irish Sea and Seán catching it in London. It represents not only Nixer's story of being separated and therefore having to work remotely but also symbolises the uproot of the young flying the nest, looking for career opportunities.
